Muskingum opened its STUNT season with an eventful opening day, highlighted by a record-setting victory and a hard-fought loss in the season-opening doubleheader.
The Muskies delivered a historic performance in their first game of the day, rolling past Centenary College, 25-7, while setting a new program record for points scored in a single contest.
Muskingum was nearly flawless from the start, earning all four available points in the opening quarter to jump out to early control. The Muskies continued to build momentum in the second quarter by securing three of the four possible points.
The third quarter proved to be another strong stretch for Muskingum, as the Muskies captured five points to further extend the lead. Muskingum closed the contest in dominant fashion in the fourth quarter, collecting 13 of the 12 possible points to cap off the highest-scoring performance in program history.
In the second game of the day, Muskingum was pushed to the limit in an eight-round battle and came up just short in an 11-8 loss.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Muskies responded with a strong second quarter, earning both available points. Muskingum carried that momentum into the third quarter by again sweeping the quarter with two more points.
The fourth quarter turned into a tightly contested finish, with Muskingum earning four of the six available points, but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit as the Muskies closed out the day with a split in their STUNT season opener.
Muskingum next plays Centenary and Hiram on Thursday, February 19. The doubleheader will be hosted by Hiram and will start at 6:00 p.m.
