How it Happened
Game 1:
After trading early runs, the Muskies exploded for five runs in the third behind key RBI hits from sophomore Kasey Timko, junior Bethany Rodman, and a two-run home run from sophomore Emily Travis to build a 6–2 lead. Marietta responded with a three-run fifth to cut the deficit to one, but Muskingum pitching settled in as freshman Dani Wright closed the door over the final two innings to preserve the victory.
Game 2:
After both teams traded runs early, Marietta surged ahead with a five-run sixth and added two more in the seventh to take an 8–3 lead. The Muskies had their backs against the wall, but answered with a five-run seventh inning to force extras. The game-tying run came on a heads-up play by senior Cara Taylor, who distracted the infield while attempting to take second after an intentional walk, allowing senior Kaitlyn Bates to score. After two and a half scoreless innings, Rodman delivered the game-winner with a single to left field, bringing home junior Olivia Rapol in the bottom of the 10th to complete the comeback and sweep.
