Muskies Remain #25 in Latest NFCA/GoRout Top 25 Poll
The Muskingum Softball team has remained in the #25 slot in the NFCA/GoRout Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll for their strong start to conference play.
The Muskies have jumped out to a 18-4 record through the first half of their season. The Muskies have been dominant on the road with a 11-1 record, along with a 5-1 record in neutral site games. Through the first 20 games of the season, Muskingum has been one of the most productive offensive teams in the region while also getting consistent production in the circle.
The Muskies are hitting .352 as a team with 231 hits and 159 runs scoring in just 22 games. They have a .406 on base percentage and a slugging percentage of .494. The Muskies have produced 55 doubles, 7 triples, and 8 home runs.
Senior standout Cara Taylor has been the catalyst of the offense. Taylor is hitting an incredible .577 with 45 hits in 78 at-bats while scoring 35 runs. She has also driven in 24 runs and leads the team with 14 doubles and three triples, while posting a .620 on-base percentage and a .872 slugging percentage.
Several other Muskies have provided major offensive support. Sophomore Kasey Timko is batting .385 with 30 hits and a team-high 27 RBIs. Freshman Tisha Thompson is hitting .367 and junior Bethany Rodman is batting .455 with two home runs and 14 RBIs.
As a team, Muskingum has also shown its ability to pressure defenses with speed, stealing 36 bases through the first 22 games of the season.
Muskingum's pitching staff has also been a key reason for the team's national ranking. The Muskies hold a 2.79 team ERA and have limited opponents to just a .239 batting average.
Rodman has led the way in the circle, going 9–0 with a 2.13 ERA in 65.2 innings pitched. She has allowed just 51 hits while striking out 31 and has been a steady presence in big-game situations.
Freshman Dani Wright has also been outstanding with a 6–1 record and a 2.08 ERA in 30.1 innings, while Freshman Lillian Fillippinie owns a 1.17 ERA and has already picked up a save this season.
