Muskie senior Brody Wildenmann's run at the Intercollegiate Singles Championship ended in a quarter-final loss to Tyler Close of St. Ambrose University.
Wildenmann fought a bad-ball reaction in his 3rd-round match, while his opponent locked in on his. With a performance capable of winning 2 of the other 3 matches in the quarter finals, he was matched up against the hottest bowler of the round.
Game 1 was a back-and-forth duel as both bowlers searched for consistent control of the pattern. By the end of the first game, Close held a slim 26-pin advantage. The second game is where the tides shifted. Close found a ball reaction that gave him exceptional control of the right lane and allowed him to avoid trouble on the left. For Brody, it was not to be. Good shots didn't carry, and okay shots resulted in max penalties. A ball and line change after a pair of splits gave Wildenmann a glimmer of hope as he strung 4 strikes together to finish game two with a 203. Unfortunately, Tyler posted 248, ballooning the lead to 71. Any momentum that Brody built going into game 3 was dashed by a 2-10 split in the 4th frame.
The loss ended the deepest run by an individual in program history, with a 5th-place finish.
Wildenmann ends his Muskie bowling career as the all-time leader in total pins and was a staple on the 2023 Collegiate Club National Championship team. The consummate shot maker was a fixture in the middle of the lineup for the Muskies back-to-back ITC Nationals teams.
