Men's Bowling finishes second at season-opening event
The Muskingum men’s bowling team kicked off the 2025-25 Saturday at the DO Apparel/Brunswick Collegiate Open with a tough-fought 2nd place finish.
The Muskingum men's bowling team kicked off the 2025-25 Saturday at the DO Apparel/Brunswick Collegiate Open with a tough-fought 2nd place finish.
A tournament high team game of 1122 helped catapult Muskingum to a 69-pin lead after the 3 team games. All 5 Muskie starters averaged over 203 during the team games, led by junior Talon Newton with 661, sophomore Caelan Guthrie with 654, and senior Brody Wildenmann with 647.
During the 12 baker games, the Muskies got off to a rough start with a 705 first block, dropping to 3rd place. After a lane change for the 2nd block, Muskingum got hot, starting game 5 with nine straight strikes for a 279, completing the 2nd 4-game block with a tournament high 940.
Heading into the 12th and final Baker game, the Muskies were in 3rd place behind Belmont Abbey and Ohio State. In the final game, the Muskies reeled off nine strikes, including 3 in the 10th from junior Jacob Willard, to shoot 233. With that clutch performance, the Muskies were able to pass Ohio State for 2nd, finishing just 35 shy of Bellmont Abbey for the title.
