The game lived on the edge throughout, featuring 19 lead changes and 16 ties, with neither team able to gain lasting separation. After trailing 46–40 at halftime, the Muskies came out and outscored the Purple Raiders 42–39 in the second half.
Senior Duane Davis led Muskingum with 25 points. He delivered several timely baskets to keep the Muskies within striking distance, including multiple finishes in transition during key moments of the second half. Junior Owen Emig added 17 points and knocked down a critical three-pointer in the final minute that trimmed the deficit to four and energized the home crowd.
Freshman Roman Crosby also came up big late, converting a fast-break layup with seven seconds remaining to pull Muskingum within one point at 83–82, giving the Muskies a final chance before Mount Union sealed the outcome at the free-throw line.
Muskingum's aggressive offensive approach was evident throughout the night, as the Muskies scored 36 points in the paint and added 19 fast-break points. The Muskies also made the most of their opportunities at the line, going 27-of-35.
