Muskingum football senior offensive lineman Foster Wertz capped off an outstanding senior season by earning Third Team All-America honors from D3football.com.
Wertz was a cornerstone of the Muskie offensive line, anchoring a unit that helped power an offense averaging 383.2 yards per game. His play up front was instrumental in Muskingum finishing second in the Ohio Athletic Conference in passing offense with 2,596 yards. Earlier this season, Wertz was recognized as a First Team All-OAC selection and a First Team All-Region 4 honoree on offense.
The D3football.com All-America team, first awarded in 1999, is one of only two All-America teams recognized in the NCAA record book, along with the AFCA All-America team. Student-athletes are nominated by their institutions in November and December for All-Region consideration before advancing to All-America voting. Each All-America team includes 11 offensive players, 11 defensive players, and four special teams selections, with four teams named annually.
Wertz becomes the first D3football.com All-American for Muskingum since 2019. The Muskies also earned AFCA All-America recognition this season, as senior linebacker Conner Gurney was honored with AFCA Second Team All-American accolades on the defensive side of the ball. The honor marks the first time since 2000 that Muskingum has had multiple All-Americans in a single season.
