Muskingum senior quarterback Garrett Gurney has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in Muskingum's thrilling 35–31 comeback victory over rival Marietta. This marks the second time this season Gurney has earned the conference's top offensive honor.
Gurney was electric under center, completing 31-of-51 passes for 390 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 30 yards and two additional scores. With the game on the line late in the fourth quarter, he orchestrated a stunning 99-yard game-winning drive to lift the Muskies to victory and bring the Shriner Trophy back to New Concord.
Gurney's five total touchdowns fueled an offense that racked up 500 yards. Muskingum finished the day with 29 first downs, going a perfect 4-for-4 on fourth down and scoring on four of five red zone trips.
The Muskies return to action this weekend as they host OAC foe Heidelberg on Saturday, October 25. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the BHWC.
